Father's Day and "How's the Market?"
It always makes me chuckle when I think back after holidays and get-togethers with family and friends. It seems as though everyone has the same question, "How's the Market?" Everyone sees the newspapers and watches the news television shows and they already know the answer. They see how some people are struggling to sell their home or they see how someone bought their dream home for $1 from a tax lien (LOL) but they want to know first-hand from an "expert."
I give straight-forward answers. Right now in my Market area (Hartford, East Hartford, Manchester, Glastonbury, South Windsor, Wethersfield) it is a great time to buy-up (sell a smaller home to buy a bigger one) and it is a great time to buy overall (we have low interest rates and low listing prices). I help my clients focus on the solution that is right for them.
If they are living in a home and THEY HAVE to sell it because of a job loss, divorce or illness then THEY HAVE to sell and I help them find the best solution. If they are thinking about selling or buying I ask them WHY. This sometimes takes people off guard because they are not used to someone asking them WHY. Well, how can I be of value if I don't know the real reason WHY? If they are interested in just experimenting with the market to put their house on it and see what happens, I understand and I guide them to be calm and relaxed about the outcome. We all know in today's market we have very knowledgeable buyers.
I guess it all comes down to showing your value as a real estate broker. I need to know the WHYs so I can give them the HOWs. It's a rewarding experience to help others sell their home when THEY HAVE to and buy a home they will enjoy for years. One of the tools i use most is my website at http://CheckYourHomePrice.info.
