When buying or selling a home, look for an ADVISOR who can bring experience, competency and an unbiased opinion. The typical real estate client will choose a real estate agent because of the yard sign being used or a “friend” of the family. Why not interview agents to ensure they are objective in analysis and will be a true advocate for your needs?
The act of providing advice or guidance to a client is much different than “selling” them. Both acts will have a strong impact on the real estate client’s decisions. The difference is that by using a COUNSELOR for your real estate needs you will have someone who is looking at your long-term needs. Don’t get caught in the moment on making a decision because the real estate agent is telling you how beautiful the view will be when the sun is setting. Look at your true needs and financial obligations. How will this home fit your needs? Will you be able to afford the payments during an emergency?
You can find a true ADVISOR by interviewing at least 3 agents for your transaction. Ask open-ended questions about them, the company they represent and even their reasons for being in the real estate business. As questions such as: How long have you been in real estate? Why did you enter the industry? Do you have any testimonials from past clients you can share with me? How are you paid for your services? Ask the real estate agents you are interviewing the “hard questions” about themselves and you will gain an understanding about their perspective. You will know whether they are truly looking out for your needs or just in the business for the money.
